HYDERABAD: A delegation of Telugu Desam Party leaders led by TD Parliamentary Party leader K. Yerran Naidu on Saturday petitioned B. Subhashan Reddy, Chairperson, Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), seeking an enquiry into what they termed ‘murder’ of Golla Rammohan in Anantapur on Thursday.
In what the police described as an encounter, Rammohan, a follower of the late Penukonda MLA Paritala Ravindra, was shot after he was said to have hurled bombs on a police party. However, citing eyewitness accounts, the TDP delegation said Rammohan had earlier surrendered to the police and that he was actually taken away to another area in the district headquarters and allegedly shot. Mr. Naidu said the TDP had enclosed a compact disc of television channel clippings and copies of newspaper cuttings to support their contention that it was a ‘fake encounter’. He and the other leaders including legislator A. Revanth Reddy and party official spokesperson Kodela Sivaprasada Rao urged the SHRC to order an in-depth enquiry into the killing.
