HYDERABAD: Embarrassed by the critical remarks of Telangana Regional Development Board Chairman Vuppunuthala Purushotham Reddy about the party and the Telangana issue, the Congress has apparently concluded that he will not support the party. Consequently, the Congress leaders have realised that there is no use in persuading him to come and campaign for the party nominee in Alair Assembly constituency. “We have given up on him after his continuing tirade against party leaders and the open call to vote for Telangana protagonists,” said sources close to APCC president D. Srinivas on Saturday. “From the manner in which he is making comments on the party leadership, it is very clear that he is not keen on working for the party,” they said. “Why should his differences with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy affect the party in Alair, from where he is aspiring to contest in the next elections?” the sources asked. Leaders are also hesitant to take any action against the senior legislator as it will only give an edge to those in the party, who are espousing the separate Telangana cause.
