New name Dinesh Verma adds to whodunit Police deny media pressure LUCKNOW: Twentyfour hours after the arrest of dentist Rajesh Talwar for his alleged involvement in the murder of his daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in Noida, the “mysterious” nature of the crime continues to raise questions. While the Noida police maintain that they have moved in the right direction, the mention of one Dinesh Verma has made the whodunit a little more complex. Dr. Talwar reportedly mentioned his name after his arrest. The dentist is reported to have said that he was being framed by Verma. Dinesh is also the name of Dr. Talwar’s brother, but his surname should also logically be a Talwar. Senior Superintendent of Police A. Satish Ganesh expressed surprise that there was someone named Dinesh Verma. “I came to know about this name from media reports,” he told The Hindu from Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh). Why would someone named Dinesh Verma try to frame Dr. Talwar in the case? “It was on the basis of circumstantial evidence that the police were able to crack the case and the circumstantial evidence pointed to Dr. Talwar’s alleged involvement.” The SSP said investigations were still continuing. When it was pointed out that Dr. Talwar’s family members and lawyer claimed that he was innocent, Mr. Ganesh said: “Which accused will plead guilty?” He denied that the case was worked out under media pressure. On Saturday, the police interrogated Dr. Anita Durrani, wife of Dr. Talwar’s colleague. Dr. Anita reportedly said the murder was not executed by Dr. Talwar, and that on the fateful night she was in Dehra Dun. Meanwhile, the dentist’s lawyer has reportedly moved the court to secure bail for his client.
