INFORMATIVE: Kavithai Pithan, former MLA, third from right, handing over the first copy of the book ‘Kavirasanin Puvivaasanai’ to Malaiyappan, secretary, International Tirukkural Peravai. PUDUKOTTAI: A piece of good news for patriots and poets. The biography of the national poet Subramania Bharathiar has been brought out in the form of poetry. Penned by the poet of Pudukottai N. Kannan, the poetry-biography titled ‘Kavirasanin Puvivaasanai’ was released at a function held under the auspices of Kavirasan Trust here recently. AppreciationParticipants at the function appreciated the efforts made by Mr. Kannan in depicting the life of Subramania Bharathiar in a unique style. They said that it was the right tribute to the National poet who reformed not only the old meter in Tamil poetry but also the reinforced patriotic fervour across the country through his revolutionary thoughts. Introducing the poetry-biography, the Joint Administrative Trustee of the Trust, K. Murugabarathi, said that the salient feature of the work was that the poems had been composed in the conventional style. “Emerging trend”The former MLA Kavithaipithan, who released the book, spoke on ‘Pudhu kavithai,’ an emerging trend in Tamil poetry. Although it was a welcome measure, a sound knowledge in the conventional style of Tamil poetry would facilitate the up and coming poets to bring in a more precise and more forceful expression. The first copy was received by the secretary of the International Tirukkural Peravai, Malaiyappan. The president of the Aranthangi Tamil Sangam L. Kailasanathan presided over the function which also marked the inauguration of ‘Kavirasan Ilakkiya Mandram’ a forum to promote Tamil literature and propagate the thoughts of the National poet. The former Municipal Chairman, Durai Divyanathan, who inaugurated the forum, described Subramania Bharathiar as a source of inspiration for the present-day Tamil poets. In his acceptance address, Mr. Kannan said that he had compiled various details on Subramania Bharathiar before setting out on his work. 57 partsDivided into 57 parts, he had classified the important events in the life of the National poet. He had also appended national events such as the Congress convention at Surat that saw the divide in the party, as ‘extremists’ and ‘moderates’ which had impacted Subramania Bharathiar. His visit to Madurai and Kasi; his entry into the adjoining Puducherry; the search by the police (Parangiyin thaedal); his three unique literary contribution ‘Panchali Sabatham,’ ‘Kannan paattu’ and ‘Kuyil paattu’ had been described in a separate chapter. The chapter ‘Mei theendiyathu’ related the sudden demise of the National poet.
