Chargers in pursuit of its first home win

V.V. Subrahmanyam

HYDERABAD: There is little at stake for the two teams — Deccan Chargers at the bottom of the table with four points from 12 games and Bangalore Royal Challengers second from the bottom with six from an equal number of games — when they clash in an inconsequential match of the DLF-Indian Premier League.

Chargers is still searching for that elusive win at home in order to set right the dubious record of losing five consecutive games on home turf.

The major source of worry for Chargers is the bowlers’ inability to strike when it matters. R.P. Singh with 15 wickets from 12 games and Pragyan Ojha (10 from 12) have done well in patches but they never displayed the ability to win matches.

Pride, the motivator

However, both teams will have to approach the contest with all seriousness. So, when Rahul Dravid, captain of Royal Challengers takes on the rival, he should be in the mood to put everything behind him and look for another pride-restoring win — to follow up with that sensational victory over Chennai Super Kings.
