Seven records set; Thiruvananthapuram continues to hold sway

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seven records were set on the second day as Thiruvananthapuram extended its overall lead and is poised to retain the title in the State junior and sub-junior aquatic championship at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Saturday.

The host increased its points tally to 1112 points at the end of competition on the second day ahead of second placed Ernakulam (484) and Thrissur (210).

A.J. Rohith of Thiruvananthapuram was the hero of the day as he set two records in boys’ group V category. Rohith set new marks in 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly races.

S.S. Vaisakh (Kollam) set his second record of the meet by swimming to a new mark in 800m freestyle in boys group I category.

R. Saravyan (Thiruvananthapuram) set a new mark in 200m breast stroke boys’ group II catetory to join S.S.Vaisakh as the twin record holders of the meet.

The day’s other records were set by T.R. Rahul (800m freestyle boys group I), S.S. Sujithmon (200m breast stroke in boys group I category) and the Thiruvananthapuram (4x50m relay squad in girls group III category).
