Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL: The district administration received over 900 grievance petitions during the Jamabandhi, the annual verification of revenue records, held in Paramathi Velur taluk.

A majority of the petitions were related to patta transfer, old age pension, formation of new roads and issue of community certificate, new family cards and death certificate. The officials had given reply to 485 petitions on the spot.

The remaining petitions had been forwarded to the departments concerned.

The administration would initiate steps to redress the grievances and a proper reply would be sent to the petitioners within 15 days, District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj said while participating in the final day of Jamabandhi in Paramathi Velur taluk on Friday.

A team of officials led by Tiruchengode Revenue Divisional Officer M. Rajendran verified the revenue records of 69 villages in the taluk from May 14 to 23. A total of 25 beneficiaries were given free house sites. The District Revenue Officer on Saturday distributed a sum of Rs. 1.50 lakh as solatium to the family of Village Assistant Arumugam, who died while on duty. Mr. Govindaraj distributed Rs. 90,000 from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund to four persons, whose properties were destroyed in a fire accident in Paramathi Velur.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi announced the compensation following a request made by Kabilarmalai MLA K. Nedunchezhian, the official said.
