Applications invited for scholarship

Krishnagiri: Applications have been invited from Scheduled Caste students with outstanding performance in the higher secondary examinations for the Dr. Ambedkar National Merit scholarship instituted by the Central Government.

An official release here today said the scholarship would be given to three students who bagged the highest marks. Four others will be considered for special scholarship.

The scholarships are given by the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment under the Dr. Ambedkar National Scholarship Scheme.

The Ambedkar National Scholarship will be given to three students each belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who score the highest marks in the plus two examination conducted by the Education Board / Council. A special award has been instituted for the girl student securing the highest marks in case she is not among the three meritorious students.

The student securing the highest marks in each Board will receive Rs.60,000, while the second highest will receive Rs.50,000 and the third Rs.40,000 respectively. To benefit more students in view of the large SC & ST population, the Foundation has instituted 250 special merit scholarships for students securing next higher marks after 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. A sum of Rs.10,000, would be given for each of these special awardees.
