Action ordered against ‘erring’ MCD officials

Staff Reporter

‘Malba’ was being dumped instead

of silt removed

from ‘nullahs’ at landfill sites

NEW DELHI: Municipal Commissioner K.S. Mehra on Friday ordered strict disciplinary action against 72 civic body officials, including senior engineers and junior “beldaars”, for serious irregularities and malpractices at sanitary landfill sites in Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalaswa.

Mr. Mehra informed that raids had revealed serious irregularities pertaining to several engineers being absent from duty. It was also detected that officials were conniving with contractors in dumping “malba” at sanitary landfill sites in place of silt removed from various “nullahs” during the de-silting work. On receiving feedback, Mr. Mehra directed the Vigilance Department to conduct surprise raids following which departmental proceedings were initiated against 14 executive engineers, 20 assistant engineers, 17 junior engineers and 21 Class IV employees.

Mr. Mehra said keeping in view the serious irregularities and malpractices, regular departmental action for major penalty proceedings have been initiated against 12 junior engineers while minor penalty proceedings have been initiated against seven executive engineers and 13 assistant engineers for lack of supervision.

Major penalty proceedings have also been initiated against one assistant engineer and one junior engineer for remaining absent from duty and gross negligence. The services of one junior engineer engaged on a contract basis have been terminated.

The Commissioner has also ordered strong legal action against the firms concerned for indulging in serious malpractices.
