Winds delay flights at airport
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Several flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport here throughout Friday because of windy conditions.
“For the third day running, the airport witnessed strong easterly winds and cross-wind activity.
Consequently, both the runways have been in use intermittently. As it normally occurs after the rain, there was increased bird activity due to presence of insects in open areas. The bird control team and airside management took action to ensure safe operations,” said airport sources.
“Bird activity was visible near the secondary runway of the airfield as a result of which simultaneous runway use was suspended from 8-20 a.m. to 9-02 a.m. due to safety concerns and only the primary runway was used in this period,” sources added.
The bad weather conditions have wrought havoc on the flight schedule at the airport the whole of this past week.
