Sweden books place in final

Poertschach: Sweden advanced to the World Team Cup final on Thursday by taking a 2-0 lead over the United States in the Red Group.

Robin Soderling maintained his unbeaten streak at the tournament by defeating James Blake 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 and Thomas Johansson then beat Bobby Reynolds 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Ljubicic in semifinals

Defending champion Juan Monaco and third-seeded Ivan Ljubicic advanced to the semifinals of the Hypo Group International on Thursday.

Monaco defeated Robby Ginepri 7-5, 7-6(3) and Ljubicic fought off five match points before beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(6).

“All was going well for me, so I lost my concentration a bit,” Ljubicic said.

“I cannot afford doing that, I have to be sharp to play well on clay.”

Ljubicic plays Monaco in Friday’s semifinal match.
