Coimbatore: Abhijit Chadha (Chandigarh) and Khalin Joshi (Bangalore), with scores of 77, were in joint lead in Category ‘A’ (15-17 yrs), on the opening day of the Lalit Suri junior golf tournament at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course here on Tuesday. The 72-hole stroke play tournament saw Abhiiit start the day on a dicey note dropping three strokes in the very first hole. The Chandigarh youngster, however, fired two birdies on the 15th and 18th holes to share the top berth with Khalin. Rommel Majumudar, Vicky Sharma, Ishaan Kanoi and Bhanu Pratap Singh trail the duo by five strokes. In Category ‘B’ (13-14 years), Ashbeer Singh Saini enjoyed a much better day. The youngster from Kolkata, with a score of 73, was in the top spot among a field of 36. Akash Srinivasan (Bangalore) and Honey Baisoya (Delhi), with a score of 85, shared the lead in ‘C’ category (11-12yrs). Local favourite S. Sidhartha was one stroke behind at 86. The scores (after 18 holes): Category ‘A’: Abhijit Chadha 77, Khalin Joshi 77. Category ‘B’: Ashbeer Singh Saini 73, Hemendra Choudhary 77, S. Chikkarangappa 79. Category ‘C’: Akash Srinivasan 85, Honey Baisoya 85, S. Sidhartha 86.
