St. Joseph’s retains championships

Chennai: St. Joseph’s College of Engineering (Chennai) retained the men’s and women’s team championships for the eighth year in succession in the annual State senior athletics championships at Palayamkottai on May 17 and 18.

The men’s team tallied 102 points, followed by Southern Railway with 78 points.

In the women’s section, St. Joseph’s finished with 155 points, followed by Southern Railway with 63.

Overall, the St. Joseph’s Academy claimed a total of 257 points.

P. Lakshmi of St. Joseph’s Academy was declared the best woman athlete of the meet, while M. Aravinth of Southern Railway emerged the best athlete in the men’s section.

Walter Dawaram, President, Tamil Nadu Athletics Association, presided and gave away the prizes. — Special Correspondent
