Boy drowns in swimming pool

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A 10-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool attached to a private club at Vinayagapuram near Nesapakkam on Sunday.

Police said that Ronaldo (10) of Pillayar Koil Street, Nesapakkam, had joined a swimming class recently.

He was being trained by two trainers.

Ronaldo was spotted in the deeper area of the pool in an unconscious state and was rushed to a private hospital, where he died.

The Choolaimedu police registered a case of negligence against the two trainers and produced them before a city court.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nungambakkam) K.N.Murali said that investigations revealed that the boy had hesitated to join the swimming course as he was afraid of entering the swimming pool.

However, he was convinced to join the course. In a bid to remove the apprehensions, he was made to enter the deeper area of the pool. When he moved into the shallow side, he consumed water and got drowned.
