Samaresh 29th in free pistol

NEW DELHI: Samaresh Jung finished 29th with a 555 in the 50-metre free pistol in the ongoing shooting World Cup in Munich on Sunday.

The Commonwealth Games champion had a series of 91, 88, 95, 94, 93 and 94 as he missed the final by eight points, in a field of 80.

In the women’s sport pistol, Shweta Chaudhry finished 30th with a 573. She did start well with a 291 in the precision series, but a 282 in the rapidfire section in which she had rounds of 97, 94 and 91 stopped her from making the final.

The results: Men’s 50m free pistol: 1. Tomoyuki Matsuda (Jpn) 663.7 (565); 2. Pang Wei (Chn) 663.3 (571); 3. Florian Schmidt (Ger) 661.2 (565); 29. Samaresh Jung 555; 52. Omkar Singh 548. MQS: Bapu Vanjare 548.

Women’s 25m sports pistol: 1. Guo Wenjun (Chn) 789.6 (588); 2. Siawomira Szpek (Pol) 685.7 (584); 3. Lalita Yauhleuskaya (Aus) 785.2 (586); 30. Shweta Chaudhry 573; 41. Annu Raj Singh 570.
