Change of guard: P.S. Pradyumna assuming office as Municipal Commissioner as in-charge Commissioner Gaurav Uppal looks on in Vijayawada on Saturday. —

Vijayawada: P. S. Pradyumna, an IAS officer of the 2004 batch, assumed charge as the Commissioner of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Saturday, relieving Sub-Collector Gaurav Uppal from the additional charge, which he has been holding ever since Natarajan Gulzar was transferred.

Mr. Pradyumna was until now working as Sub-Collector of Gudur in Nellore district. He took charge from Mr. Uppal around 3 p.m. after waiting for a few minutes in the ante-room of his chamber for the auspicious time to set in.

Senior officials and other staff of the VMC made a beeline to greet him with bouquets.

He later had a detailed dialogue with Mr. Uppal on various issues pertaining to the city, including the ongoing works under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Heads of various departments detailed him about their activities, functions and duties.

In a brief and customary interaction with media persons, Mr. Pradyumna said sanitation, drinking water and completion of JNNURM projects would be his priority areas.

A clear picture of what needed to be done would, however, emerge only after reviewing the works in every department.

It was also necessary for him to make a field inspection to understand the city and its topography.

Drinking water

Without waiting for anything, drinking water supply would be accorded top priority to ensure that the people did not suffer even a little during summer, he said.

Additional Commissioner (General) G.P. Neelakantham, Examiner of Accounts Eluri Ashok Mourya, Additional Commissioner (Projects) S.V. Giridhar Rao, CMOH Kolli Srikaruna Murthy, Assistant City Planner Saibabu, Superintending Engineer P. Adiseshu and others were present.
