Missing girl reunited with family in Delhi

CHENNAI: The 15-year-old girl, Jotheeswari, reported missing by her parents on Friday was reunited with her family on Saturday morning at the New Delhi railway station.

On Thursday, Jotheeswari’s mother had given her Rs. 200 to pay her tuition fees at the typewriting institute. Jotheeswari had apparently attended the class and paid the fees.

Instead of returning home, took an autorickshaw to Chennai Central from where she boarded the Grand Trunk Express to New Delhi.

She travelled by S1 compartment along with a Tamil-speaking family and it was not until Friday evening when the train reached Bhopal that she was found.

According to Ravi, a Southern Railway employee, who was travelling along with a group of railway employees in the S5 compartment of the same train, a north Indian passenger in S1 compartment had alerted them about Jotheeswari, who had not eaten since leaving Chennai and refused to divulge information about herself.

“The co-passengers took down our addresses and handed over the girl to us because we could speak Tamil. We bought her food and then coaxed her to give us her address in Chennai. The girl gave the typewriting institute’s address. I called up the staff in Korukkupet and alerted them.”

A quick check of the address provided by the girl helped trace the family. Jotheeswari’s father left for New Delhi on Saturday morning and brought her back by flight, Mr. Ravi, who is in New Delhi, told The Hindu.
