For service between the Chennai Airport and the Central Railway Station CHENNAI: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation has revised the fare for the air-conditioned bus service between the Chennai Airport and the Central Railway Station from Friday. A senior MTC official said that the fare has been divided into day time and night time fares. During the day, the minimum fare would be Rs. 25 and the maximum, Rs. 50. This excluded the baggage charges of Rs. 10 per luggage. The minimum fare at night would be Rs. 50 and the maximum, Rs. 100. This fare is applicable for those boarding the bus inside the airport or alighting at the airport. The day time fare would be in force from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., the official said. Once the bus comes out of the airport premises, the passengers would be charged regular fares like other air-conditioned bus services operated in the city between various destinations. For example, if someone boards the bus outside the airport and asks for a ticket to the Central, he would have to pay Rs. 28 only, the official said. The decision to revise the fare comes in the wake of poor response to the bus service at the airport, the official said. The MTC authorities’ observation had revealed that at present only those coming to send off their relatives/friends used the air-conditioned bus service.
