Little pop stars steal the show

HYDERABAD: The organisers billed the programme as a contest. However, it turned out to be anything but one. It was more like a pop concert with boisterous tweens — children aged between eight and twelve years — belting out Hindi film songs with aplomb. They even had the chutzpah to allow elders take backseat and soak in all the attention showered on them.

Complete makeover

The organisers Disney Channel did their best to make ‘tweens’ look and feel like real pop stars. The children were given a complete makeover. Attired in pop star glamwear, replete with glitzy tight pants, shirt, cowboy hats and gaudy looking shades, they did their best to sing along with the recorded music. Over 400 tweens, dreaming to become a pop star and to feature in a music video to be screened during the Disney Channel’s television series Hanna Montana, participated in the two-day Disney Channel’s ‘Hannah Montana - Big Pop Star Dream’ auditions at Prasad’s IMAX on Saturday.

To add fun and variety, the organisers once in a while threw open the stage to spectators, who were largely children and folks, and asked them to perform an impromptu jig. Some of them even imitated the mannerisms of television character Hanna Montana by striking poses.

“This is the best way to spend our vacations. We enjoyed singing and the festivities. It was fun and we will be back tomorrow,” said 11-year Harsh, who came to IMAX along with his friends. Four semi-finalists will be chosen in contests at Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.
