Staff Reporter

BAPATLA (GUNTUR DT): A family picnic on the shores of Suryalanka beach near here ended on a tragic note after a man and his son got drowned at the sea on Saturday morning.

The deceased, Pathan Amanullah Khan, 50, was working as a fitter in South Central Railway, Vijayawada Electrical Department. His son, Imran Khan (22) recently completed engineering course in Nimra Engineering College and received a phone call while on the beach about his success. The family, which came to the beach in the morning, faced this tragedy at 10.30 a.m. when father and son went into the sea for a second time.

Police said that a group of 60 persons, all belonging to the same family, arrived in the morning. After having food, they took to waters. The father and son ventured a little deeper only to be swept away by the strong currents. While Imran Khan died on the spot, his father succumbed on the way to the hospital.
