Caution against unethical trade practices

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: District Collector V. Palanikumar has exhorted students, parents and the public to check for the number of pages in each note book that they buy and in the event of lesser number of pages, they should prefer complaints.

In a statement, Mr. Palanikumar said that with the academic year all set to begin, students and parents were on a buying spree of books and it had been brought to the notice of the administration by the consumer organisations that in a number of 192-page note books, the pages was actually far less than that was claimed.

In the event of lesser number of pages in the note book and the same being sold as 192-page note book, it would amount to unethical trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.

Crackdown

As the administration had planned to launch a crackdown on such trade practices, Mr. Palanikumar exhorted the students and the public to prefer complaints to the Chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee and the District Collector or the District Supply officer.

Complaints

Complaints could be preferred either in person or by post.

Public could also prefer complaints either at the website www.consumer.tn.gov.in or at consumer@tn.nic.in, the statement added
