COIMBATORE: The city received only 51 million litres of drinking water under the Siruvani scheme on Friday, as against the 70 million litres that was being provided since the summer began.

Water supply officials said the Coimbatore Corporation’s field workers were trying to find out whether this was caused by a problem with the valves in the supply system.

A shortfall of 19 million litres affected supply in the city.

The distribution schedule had to be revised as the amount of water received was not enough to make the regular supply.

The Corporation had already made some changes to Siruvani and Pilloor water supply to offset shortage of water in Singanallur and Ondipudur.

Three million litres of Pilloor water is being supplied to these areas from the share of water for areas such as Pappanaickenpalayam and Sidhapudur.

The Pilloor water allocated for this area is diverted to the eastern parts of the city.

And, Siruvani water is supplied to Pappanaicken- palayam.

Corporation sources said the heavy shortfall on Friday might have hit this area also.

A water supply official said the water level in the Siruvani Dam kept coming down.

It was 35 ft, as against the full reservoir level of 67.44 ft.

The level on May 16 last year was 32 ft.

The level has reduced by 4 ft in 15 days. It was 39 ft on May 1.
