Pen down strike by High Court staff

CUTTACK: Hundreds of Orissa High Court employees resorted to a pen-down strike protesting against, what they called, an illegal promotion granted to one of the court employees. The employees under the banner “Orissa High Court Workers’ Association” were opposed to the promotion of an ex-cadre employee to the rank of a Class I cadre officer. However, following intervention of Chief Justice A K Ganguly, who assured that the promotion order would be cancelled, the striking employees relented and joined the work but not before stalling the work for over three hours.

In fact, Friday was the last day of Chief Justice A K Ganguly’s occupancy in Orissa High Court. He has been transferred as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court and is likely to join in his new assignment on May 19. Senior judge Mr Justice I M Quddusi has been appointed the acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
