BHUBANESWAR: An altercation among residents of two villages turned bitter in Puri district of Orissa in which one person was beaten to death while three persons burnt alive. The incident took place when a group of people from Budhibar village was going to Kholgunj village under Krusnaprasad Police Station of the district to perform marriage rituals. But they were asked to stop to proceed further by a group of Kholagunj residents. An altercation ensued and then a bloody clash. Kuna Tarai (20) of Budhibar, who came along with the procession, was beaten mercilessly. He succumbed to his injuries. As the news spread, the residents of Budhibar attacked Kholgunj village at around 11 pm and set ablaze to a number of houses. Three persons including a girl were charred to death as they were sleeping in their house. The victims were identified as Ananta Palei (70), his wife Hema(65) and their granddaughter Manduli(7). Meanwhile, police teams have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.
