CUTTACK: Local police on Friday found body of a girl student of Ravenshaw University hanging from the ceiling fan of an apartment she was staying here near the university campus. Adyasha Rajguru (20), a first year Information Technology Management (ITM) student, allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night when two of her roommates were away in Bhubaneswar, police said. “We have also retrieved a suicide note of the girl from her room in which the victim claimed that she had taken the extreme step on her own and no one else was responsible for it,” said Malgodown police inspector P K Rath. After getting the post mortem report and examining her roommates and relatives, the cause of the suicide would be known, Mr. Rath added. However, preliminary investigations revealed that Adyasha, daughter of a priest, had secretly married to a boy of lower caste about three months ago and had severed all links with her parents. She was, however, not staying with her husband who works as civil engineer and instead had shared a room in an apartment with two of her classmates. The girl’s father Nilakantha Rajguru, a native of Choudwar on the outskirts of the city said he was not in touch with his daughter ever since she married secretly. “We were opposed to the marriage but later learnt from some of her friends that they have registered their marriage in court,” Mr. Nilakantha said. Sources said the girl was in tense for past several days reportedly due to stiff opposition she was facing from her family over the marriage. However, there was no news of her husband. Although, information was sent to her husband he did not turn up. “After post mortem we handed over the body to her father for cremation,” police said.
