The ultimate in donations

Sushanta Talukdar

Guwahati: The campaign for posthumous body and eye donations in Assam being run by the Ellora Vigyan Mancha, a voluntary organisation, for the past four years received a boost on Thursday when 51 persons including 25 women came forward to pledge their bodies for organ transplantation and medical research.

At a function organised by the Mancha to mark the fifth death anniversary of Ellora Roychouhdury, the first woman from the northeastern region to donate her body for medical research, the 51 body donors put their signatures on their “Last Will” for registration.

With these pledges, the number of persons who have bequeathed their bodies through the Mancha in the State went up to 219.

Since the death of Ellora Roychoudhury, a total of 11 bodies have been donated, said Isfaqur Rahman, her husband and secretary of the Mancha.
