Corrections and Clarifications

  • The sixth paragraph in a report “Badal for restoring Punjab’s share in Chandigarh Administration” (North India, May 16, 2008, page 3) was “Subsequently, the Chief Commissioners and now the Advisors to the Administrator was an ex-cadre post which had now been converted into cadre post of IAS of Assam, Goa, Meghalya and other Union Territories (AGMUT) Cadre.” The expansion of AGMUT cadre is Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories.

  • The first paragraph in a honey story “Python swallows blackbuck” (Andhra Pradesh, May 16, 2008, page 4) was “A python sneaked into the deer enclosure in Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SVZP) here [Tirupati] on Thursday and swallowed a six month-old blackbuck, creating jitters among the rest of the tribe.” It should have been “herd”.

  • An item “Rio Ferdinand committed to Man U” (“Snapshots – Sport”, May 16, 2008) said that England international Rio Ferdinand has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United, and the new deal means Ferdinand is likely to spend the remainder of his career with the club he joined in 2002 from West Ham. It was an error. Rio Ferdinand moved to Man U from Leeds.

  • A sentence in a cricket report “Facile win for Kings XI” (“Sport”, May 14, 2008) said that “… James Hopes smashed three sixes in his 19 before Luke Pomersbach made his presence with a 24-ball 34”, while the scorecard gave it as “Kings XI Punjab: … J. Hopes c Steyn b Vinay Kumar 27”. The scoreboard is right. Hopes scored 27 and not 19 as mentioned in the text.

  • The third paragraph in an F-1 racing report “Massa’s love affair with Turkey continues” (“Sport”, May 12, 2008) said “Hamilton pulled off the overtaking move of the race on Massa and denied Ferrari a likely one-two despite adopting a three-stop fuel strategy compared to his rival’s two stopper. But there was no stopping Massa who controlled the 58-lap race on the 5.338km track which he clearly loves.” Hamilton pulled off the overtaking move on Raikonnen, and not on Massa.
