Micro irrigation scheme to be intensified
Staff Reporter
Either drip or sprinkler irrigation equipment can be set up
TIRUCHI: Implementation of the Centrally-sponsored and subsidy-based micro irrigation scheme in the district would be intensified with co-ordinated efforts by Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering Departments and cooperative sugar mills.
A target has been fixed for each of these departments for the release of the subsidy during the current financial year, Collector T. Soundaiah said.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, the Collector said that the Horticulture Department would release the subsidy to horticultural farmers, the Cooperative Sugar mills to the cane-growers and the Agricultural Engineering Department to the fruit-growers.
Pointing out that the scheme did not make much headway in the past two years, the Collector said only Rs.30.62 lakh had been released as subsidy out of the total Rs.3.35 crore received during the period.
Subsidy was released in proportion to the extent of area brought under cultivation and a farmer is eligible for irrigating a maximum of five hectares.
Farmers can set up either drip irrigation or sprinkler irrigation equipment.
The maximum per hectare subsidy for setting up sprinkler irrigation equipment, irrespective of crop cultivated, was Rs.7,500.
Farmers interested in availing themselves of the subsidy can get the application forms from the Agriculture, Horticulture and Cooperative Sugar Mills in their vicinity.
