AIIMS registrar case stay vacated

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday vacated a Single Judge Bench stay on V.P. Gupta from joining as Registrar of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on a regular basis.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice A.P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar vacated the stay.

The AIIMS administration had on March 27 this year moved the High Court seeking a stay on and quashing of the Single Judge Bench order staying the then Acting AIIMS Director Tirath Dass Dogra’s decision to permit Dr. Gupta, a former ad hoc Registrar of the Institute, to rejoin the duty as a regular administrator.

Justice Anil Kumar of the Court had stayed Dr. Dogra’s decision in February saying that Dr. Gupta was restrained from joining duty till further orders. Mr. Justice Kumar had granted the stay on a petition by the AIIMS Faculty Association.

The Association had contended that Dr. Dogra had violated a March 2007 order of the High Court for appointment of a person on a regular basis at the Institute. The Division Bench allowed the submission by the Institute’s counsel that the Single Judge Bench had not considered the fact that the petitioner had nothing to do with the matter.
