ILBS only dedicated institute of liver diseases in India 41 crore sanctioned for permanent new school buildings NEW DELHI: The Expenditure Finance Committee of the Delhi Government on Friday approved six new projects worth Rs. 346 crore, including the Rs. 223.29-crore Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences Phase II at Vasant Kunj, during a meeting presided over by Finance Minister A. K. Walia. After the meeting, Dr. Walia announced that construction of the building for the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences at Vasant Kunj would provide comprehensive and dedicated patient care to those suffering from liver and biliary diseases. The institute would also set up a premier teaching and training facility that would be dedicated for research through its Post-Doctoral Medical College. While Phase I of the project is on the verge of completion, Phase II would comprise academics and research-oriented activities besides some of the clinical activities left out in the first phase. The second phase would also have a residential accommodation for faculty and other employees of the Institute. Dr. Walia said the Government has decided to set up IL&BS as an autonomous body to provide first class medical care. It would play an important role as there is no national core facility or dedicated institute of liver diseases in the country. For improving facilities at Tihar Jail, the EFC has sanctioned Rs. 9.16 crore for construction of family quarters in the prison complex to provide additional quarters for the employees of lower pay scale in Jail 1. The quarters would be constructed within 12 months. The committee has also sanctioned Rs. 2.33 crore as revised estimate for construction of double-storey residential barracks for 328 Tamil Nadu Security Police personnel and office accommodation at Tihar Central Jail. Towards education, the EFC has sanctioned a revised sum of Rs. 41.03 crore for permanent new school buildings at Rohini, Dwarka, Ghazipur, Narela and Jahangirpuri. It has also sanctioned Rs. 6.01 crore for construction of a bus depot-cum-terminal in Sector 18 on Bawana Road in Rohini. The project, which would be completed within 12 months, was deemed necessary as there was no Delhi Transport Corporation bus terminal and depot in the area.
