GULBARGA: Campaigning has gained momentum in Gulbarga district which will go to polls on May 22. Prominent among those who have toured the district and those scheduled to tour are All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi, BJP president Rajnath Singh, the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the former Chief Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and B.S. Yeddyurappa and S.M. Krishna, the former Union Ministers C.M. Ibrahim and Ananth Kumar, and actor Hema Malini. While Ms. Sonia Gandhi will address a public meeting in Gulbarga in support of the party candidates, Mr. Rajnath Singh addressed a rally of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Yadgir on Thursday. Mr. Ananth Kumar and Ms. Hema Malini addressed public meetings in Surpur, Afzalpur and Gulbarga. Mr. Deve Gowda undertook a two-day tour of the district from Thursday seeking support for Janata Dal (Secular) candidates. Mr. Ibrahim campaigned in favour of Congress candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party is making all efforts to woo voters in its favour. Mr. Modi, Mr. Yeddyurappa and other senior leaders of the party will tour the district soon. Ms. Mayawati will campaign for Bahujan Samaj Party candidates. She will address a public meeting here on May 18. Mr. Kumaraswamy is scheduled to visit Gulbarga district in the next two days. The meetings addressed by Ms. Hema Malini and Mr. Ananth Kumar attracted a large number of people in Surpur, Afzalpur and Gulbarga.
