Security tightened in naxal-hit areas
Special Correspondent
SHIMOGA: Security has been tightened in the naxal-affected areas of the district following the killing of two persons, one of them a Bharatiya Janata Party worker, by suspected naxalites near Hebri in Udupi district on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police S. Murugan told The Hindu that the vehicles entering the district were being checked.
“We are on a high alert,” he said.
The former Minister D.H. Shankarmurthy has expressed shock over the incident.
He has appealed to the voters in the area to exercise their franchise without any fear.
He has asked the police to ensure proper security to the voters.
