Airport to be in stand-by mode for a month

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Even though the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has cleared the commencement of operations at the new airport, there appear to be anxieties about its smooth functioning.

According to the sources in HAL airport, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has directed the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the HAL airport to keep the equipment in operation mode for at least a month even after the inauguration of the new airport. That means although there will be no commercial operation from HAL airport, all the facilities (including various retaining of personnel, equipments, baggage scanners, immigration and customs counters, trolleys and so on) will be in ready-to-use mode. The HAL airport and the AAI should be prepared to start full-fledged commercial operation within two hours of notice in case something goes wrong at the new airport, the sources said.
