Standing Committee gets women members
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Congress and the BJP have nominated one woman member each to the standing committee attached to the Ministry of Law and Justice that will be looking at the women’s reservation bill introduced a day before the Budget session of Parliament ended.
When the bill was sent to the standing committee chaired by E. M. Sudarsana Natchiappan earlier this month, there was not a single woman member. However, now the Congress has nominated Prabha Thakur and the BJP has asked Najma Heptullah to serve on the committee.
There are more vacancies and more women MPs may get the nomination of their parties. Every party has the right to change any of its existing members on the committee.
Mr. Natchiappan said that he had scheduled the first meeting of the Committee on May 27.
