Jayabharathy working on two projects

CHENNAI: Director Jayabharathy, one of the filmmakers who started the art film moment in Tamil with his film ‘Kudisai’, is currently working on two new projects for the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. .

The film, being produced by the Central Institute of Indian languages, is titled ‘Royal Culture in Cankam Age’ and looks at people and cultures as they were about 2,500 years ago.

Fascinated by the subject

Jayabharathy, who has directed about seven feature films so far, said it was really hard to do a film of this nature.

“When you want to show how the people would have been at that time and what their culture was, it is a mammoth task. After research, I was totally fascinated by the subject.”

“It is indeed a wonderful experience filming it and I enjoyed every bit of it. The film deals with all the three Sangam ages — Muthal, Edai and Kadai Sangam. I have re-enacted some of the incidents,” he said.

“I also got to work with the national award winning art director P. Krishnamurthy, who has brought out the essence of Sangam period beautifully.”

The camera is handled by Muthra and the music is scored by Thashi, who won the best music director award from the Kerala government last year.

Dancer Radika Surjith has done the choreography, while Divya Sivsundar, student of Dhananjayan has performed for some of the songs from ‘Purananooru’.

The research was pursued by Tamil scholar S. Kabilan.
