Parimarjan shares lead
NEW DELHI: Parimarjan Negi surprised fellow Grandmaster and fifth seed Hannes Stefansson to share the lead after six rounds of the Kaupthing Open chess tournament at Differdange, Luxembourg, on Wednesday.
Parimarjan’s fourth victory in the competition came after his rival from Iceland found no way of escaping a checkmating net and resigned after 38 moves. The teenager now shares the lead with second-seeded Romanian GM Andrei Istratescu at five points.
Abhijeet Gupta stayed half a point behind the leaders after drawing with 14th seed Romain Edouard in just 12 moves.

Sixth round: Parimarjan Negi (5) bt Hannes Stefansson (Isl, 4); Romain Edouard (Fra, 4.5) drew with Abhijeet Gupta (4.5); Sahaj Grover (3) lost to Yelena Dembo (Gre, 4); Tania Sachdev (3.5) bt Nicolas Maleki (Fra, 2.5).
