Bio-diversity board constituted

CHENNAI: The State Government has constituted the Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Board.
The Board, headed by the Environment and Forests Minister and comprising 10 other members, came into existence on April 29, according to the government notification that was posted on the official web site on Thursday.
The Board will regulate access to bio-resources. Its other functions include conservation, and sustainable utilisation of available bio-resources outside the protected area. Among the members are the Secretaries of the Environment and Forests, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Departments; the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; and the Chief Wildlife Warden.
A. Manickam, Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University; P.Thangaraju, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Medical Sciences University; S. Subramaniyan, member of the National Biodiversity Authority; S. Natarajan, Head of the Department of Botany, Palani Andavar College of Arts, Palani; and S. Kondas, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Tamil Nadu, are the other members.
