Kakinada: Doctor K.S.R. Swamy was appointed in-charge of the Department of Cardiology of the Government General Hospital (GGH), Kakinada. He succeeds Doctor P.V.V. Satyanarayana who was found by the GGH superintendent Doctor M. Surya Kumari to be negligent in discharging his duties. Dr. Surya Kumari stated in a press release that Dr. Satyanarayana, an associate professor of cardiology, was not attending to the out patients (OP) and even the department despite being its in-charge and whenever he went on leave, only one post-graduate student and a house surgeon used to examine the OP cases. The sanitary conditions on the ward premises were not satisfactory and there were complaints from the patients and some doctors that Dr. Satyanarayana was not a professor. He was therefore not competent to sign on important documents like State Illness Assistance Fund forms, referral forms to NIMS, drug forms etc. Besides, Dr. Satyanarayana did not show a room on the ward premises, which was under illegal use by him, to the GGH superintendent and even the Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi during his recent inspection. Taking these irregularities into consideration, Dr. Surya Kumari has made Dr. K.S.R. Swamy who is currently Head of the Department of Medicine, as the in-charge of the cardiology ward. She has also instructed Dr. Satyanarayana to work under Dr. Swamy’s guidance.
