THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Creating an all-time record, 92.09 per cent of the candidates qualified for higher studies in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination for 2007-08, the results of which were announced by Education Minister M.A. Baby here on Tuesday afternoon. The pass percentage without moderation surpassed the previous best of 82.29 per cent without moderation in 2007. A total of 4, 51,464 students wrote the examination. Among the, 4,15,744 candidates were declared eligible for higher studies. As many as 6,480 candidates secured A+ grade for all the 10 subjects. A total of 18,697 students secured A and 32,406 students B+ grades. The following are the remaining grades: B (49,756), C+ (76,437), C (1,11,071), D+ (1,20,897), D (33,038) and E (562). Among the Scheduled Caste candidates, 110 secured A+ for all subjects. Among the Scheduled Tribe candidates, nine got A+. Thrissur took the credit for having the highest number of students with A+ for all subjects (768). While Kannur came top with the highest pass percentage at 96.4, the lowest was recorded in Palakkad, 85.6 per cent. As many as 799 schools secured 100 per cent results. The district with the maximum representation of candidates was Malappuram (70,059) St. Mary’s Higher Secondary school, Pattom, had the maximum number of candidates (1,411). In the Private Scheme, 64.4 per cent candidates qualified for higher studies. A total of 188 results have been withheld, mostly due to technical reasons such as error in registration number on the answersheet. “The withheld results will be announced in a month’s time,” the Minister said. Employee suspendedEarlier, Mr. Baby informed mediapersons that the Directorate of Public Instruction had suspended Shine Raj, a Pareeksha Bhavan employee who was allegedly responsible for leaking the results to candidates in Kollam on Monday evening prior to the formal declaration of the results. “This is a criminal offence,” the Education Minister said. Candidates who failed to clear the examination will be able to appear for the Save-a-Year examination to be held on May 26.
