Dyal Singh College assured of alternative land

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Joint Action Committee of Dyal Singh College that had been agitating against acquisition of part of the college land by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation claims to have been assured of alternative contiguous land to meet its “educational requirements”. The convenor of the committee, Sachin N., said a delegation led by Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja had met Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy nearly two weeks ago and the latter promised an alternative piece of land to the college.

“The land identified for this is contiguous with the college boundary and is in possession of the Central Reserve Police Force which will now be allotted to Dyal Singh College. The seven-month-long agitation carried forward through signature campaigns, representations/memorandums and meetings with the authorities have led to a fruitful state of affairs for the educational community,” he said. “Many national leaders cutting across political affiliations recognised the danger faced by the college in the wake of the earlier proposal and wrote to the Union Urban Development Ministry to accommodate the views of the college community. In this regard, we appreciate the efforts of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat who wrote to Mr. Reddy highlighting our position as well as Communist Party of India general secretary A. B. Bardhan,” said Sachin.
