Interesting and responsible: Students attending a craft work session of Rotary Laharry Matriculation Higher Secondary School. MADURAI: In one way or other, the ‘green’ colour dominated the ‘Green School Programme’ that invariably brainstormed the students of the Rotary Laharry Matriculation Higher Secondary School besides motivating them to save the Mother Earth. The ‘Seasonal Aptitude Development Programme’ had a line of agenda from craft an art to shuttle cock and from green school programme to computer animation for all section of students. The main idea of the green school programme was to cultivate green habits that would motivate them to save the earth. To inspire the children the programme had sessions on environmental calendar, green careers, green food, conservation of energy and fuel. The sessions were – quiz on eco-friendly activities, method of selecting vegetables, preparation of mosquito spray in a natural way and how to grow kitchen garden in the available space and compost preparation on the school campus Hey, watch what you eat - the programme did not confine itself to earth but also everyone’s health. Every day, the quotes on food for thought and salad preparation made the students take resolutions to go for green and healthy food items relegating the fast-food culture that is rampant among children and youth. To help children overcome stress and strain the programme had organised sessions on asanas as part of the yoga classes besides teaching them the classical and devotional songs to suit children’s interest. Communication skillAnother exciting session for children was communication skill programme that regularly provided space for children to express themselves besides their inhibitions. The communication skill classes again allowed the children to propagate discussion on global warming, new frontiers, new hopes, challenging corner, personality and leadership role, colour psychology and more. The other programmes included crossword puzzles, accent, pronunciation and grammar. The students were divided into three categories from Standard I to IV, V to VIII and kindergarten and corses were offered as per their choices.
