CII to focus on scaling up for sustainable growth

Staff Reporter

Programmes on venture capital to be held

Study on entertainment sector planned

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore zone of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will focus this year on “scaling up now for sustainable and inclusive growth”.

Its newly-elected chairman C.N. Ashok and vice-chairman Ravi Sam told presspersons here on Friday, “today the challenges are different with competition getting fierce, shorter time to correct wrong decisions, human resource management becoming critical and product life getting shorter.”

The confederation would hold programmes on venture capital and private equity funding, capital market and initial public offering, mergers and acquisitions and automation. This would provide guidance to the units on funding opportunities for the growth of their business.

The State chapter of the CII had come out with a Tamil Nadu Vision 2025 and identified 101 successful, first generation entrepreneurs of the State. Nearly one-third of these entrepreneurs were from Coimbatore.

The Coimbatore chapter would work with the government on skill development initiatives by enhancing industry-institute interaction. A model was in place through the training imparted in operating CNC machines. This should be scaled up now. The confederation would look at programmes to leverage the opportunities in agri-business in this region, showcase opportunities in knowledge process outsourcing and engineering process outsourcing and explore the business potential for entertainment and hospitality sectors.

Mr. Ashok said the confederation planned to commission a study on the potential for development of the entertainment sector here.

It wanted to take more efforts in skill development and agri business development too. According to Mr. Sam, the zone had over 300 members and an office was opened at Erode recently.
