Nizhegorodov sets World record

CHEBOKSARY (Russia): Denis Nizhegorodov of Russia set a new World record of 3:34.13 seconds in the men’s 50km walk at the World Cup stage here on Sunday. He bettered the previous mark of 3:35:47, set by Australia’s Nathan Deakes in Geelong, Australia, on December 2, 2006. “It becomes a good tradition for me to set records before the Olympics,” said Nizhegorodov. — Agencies
