Jyothirmayi’s parents to leave for UK
VIJAYAWADA: The parents and sister of Vempala Samraja Jyothirmayi, the student who was killed in Birmingham last Tuesday, will be leaving for the United Kingdom at the earliest to have a glimpse of their daughter’s body, which is in the custody of the West Midlands police who are probing the murder.
The State Government will bear the cost of their travel and also pick up the bill for bringing the body back. Their stay will be taken care of by the European Telugu Association, while the Consulate General of India at Birmingham will help them get the body back.
Krishna district Collector Shailaja Ramaiyer told The Hindu on Sunday that she held a meeting with Naga Saibabu, father of Jyothirmayi, and told him that it would be better for them to leave for the UK immediately instead of waiting endlessly, as the West Midlands police were likely to take nearly four weeks to hand over the body.
The parents were convinced after the Government offered to foot the bill for their travel.
