Expo on food processing industry

VARIETY: Products on display at the exhibition organised by the Bakers Association Kerala in Kochi on Saturday.

Food processing industry has been identified as one with high growth potential. The baking sector in Kerala is making efforts to make use of the opportunity. The Bakers Association Kerala (Bake) has organized an exhibition of various products and machinery available in the market in a bid to bring various facilities and products on a single platform.

The products on display include special ovens, bakery showcases and weighing machines. The manufacturers of a rotary rack oven on show promises high output and low production cost.

The machine helps in maintaining a profitable business, according to the manufacturers. The innovative food items on display include potato flakes that could be used as an ingredient for a variety of food items. Furniture suited for extension facilities at bakeries are also on show.

The bakers in Kerala have a long tradition of providing items suited for the local palate. Innovation has been the hallmark of many of the products. But the facilities need to be upgraded to compete with branded items in the market. The exhibition will enable the baking industry to familiarize with the latest developments in the sector, according to the organizers. The exhibition will improve the awareness on a host of issues pertaining to the industry, according to P. M. Sankaran, president of the organization.The entry of multinationals is challenge that the bakers face and the exhibition will go a long way in providing new insight into the business, he says.
