For culture: D. Purandeswari, Union Minister of State for HRD, releasing Anju Poddar’s (left) book on ‘Our Festivals Our Traditions’ in city on Saturday. HYDERABAD: Globalisation, the buzzword of 21st century, was visualised by the sages of our country long before it was actually coined, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D. Purandeswari observed on Saturday. Speaking at a book release function as the chief guest, the Minister who awed the reforms-savvy Prime Minister equated the process of globalisation with the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbam’ (meaning ‘The Global Family’). India, a country rich in traditions, has an innate potential to assimilate many cultures, she said. “It is a large country of diversity and could be chaotic at times. But that is what makes it interesting,” she said. She hoped that the book ‘Our Festivals Our Traditions’ by Anju Poddar would be able to inculcate respect for traditions in the country’s youth who are currently being swept away by the western culture. She praised the women of the country who “very satisfactorily fulfilled many roles” and “matched up to the edict of Shatkarmayukta Kuladharmapatni”. Guest of honour and founder-chairman of Satyam Computers B. Ramalinga Raju described festive occasions as a mature way of society coming together and said that Indians today are so confident that they did not need to look up to the past for reasons to feel proud. Author Anju Poddar said that festivals and rituals have scientific reasons and should be understood beyond the superstitions associated with them. The book is published in two languages namely English and Hindi. One may contact Samay Books at 040-27816265 for copies.
