Praja Patham in 10 districts after bypolls

HYDERABAD: The State Government has decided to take up Praja Patham 2008, mass contact programme, for on the spot redressal of grievances, in 10 districts after the completion of the byelections.

Praja Patham could not be taken up in the districts where byelections are being held for 18 Assemb1y and four Lok Sabha seats after the Election Commission put a halt to it following objections raised by the Opposition parties.

Massive programme

As a result, only 2,285 panchayats/wards against the total of 11,400 in these districts could be covered before the code of conduct came into force.

It was scheduled to cover 26,962 village panchayats/wards during the just-concluded programme that spanned 22 working days involving 1,139 teams and 10,000 functionaries from the departments dealing with priority areas.

In all, 15,562 panchayats were covered in 13 districts of which the Praja Patham teams visited 15,312 marking 98 per cent of coverage.

All segments covered

The programme was conducted in all the 294 Assembly constituencies and MLAs from 246 constituencies including 187 of the Congress, 27 of the TDP and 62 of other parties took part in it. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who interacted with the officials, reiterated his Government’s commitment to follow the saturation concept in all schemes including Indiramma housing, pensions, tuition fee reimbursement and ration cards to see that no eligible person was denied the benefit.

Less complaints

According to an official press release, Praja Patham’s success in the last three years was evident from the fact that number of complaints had come down significantly.

The level of satisfaction was put at 99 per cent, according to the press release.
