From Sunday, photographers will accompany the revision teams The first phase will last till May 18 VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), on the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), started intensive revision of electoral rolls in Vijayawada (East) and Vijayawada (West) Assembly segments on Saturday. The exercise, which is scheduled to go on till July 14, involves door-to-door visits by designated personnel who will verify the names that appear or do not appear in the current electoral rolls and decide which ones need to be included or deleted. The names of deceased persons and those who have shifted their residence will be deleted from the list. Field identificationThe teams commenced field identification around 7 a.m. in Madhuranagar in Vijayawada (East) Assembly segment and Vidyadharapuram in Vijayawada (West) Assembly segment. As many as 15 teams each in the two segments collected data from nearly 300 houses on the first day. Each team covered 5 to 8 houses. From Sunday, photographers would be accompanying the teams to take the digital photographs of voters whose names already figure in the electoral rolls but photographs have not been take before, and also take the photographs of new voters. A Booth Level Officer (BLO) accompanied by a photographer will visit every house to verify the electoral rolls. During the first phase, which would last till May 18, the programme will be taken up in 1 to 47 polling stations of Vijayawada (East) Assembly segment, covering Madhuranagar, Satyanarayanapuram, Mutyalampadu, Lakshminagar, Ramanagar, Durgapuram and Gandhinagar. The revision will continue till July 14 to cover 186 polling stations in the segment in seven phases. Similarly, the first phase programme will be taken up in Vijayawada (West) segment till May 18 in 1 to 51 polling stations in Vidyadharapuram, Ramarajya Nagar, Mallikarjunapeta and Kothapeta.
