Help at hand: Meenakshi Thampan, member of State Women’s Commission, calling on an injured woman at the District Hospital in Thrissur on Saturday. Thrissur: Communist Party of India leader and member of the State Women’s Commission Meenakshi Thampan on Saturday said the Commission would directly investigate the attack on relatives – some of them women -- of Vellatheri Anandan, if there were lapses in the police inquiry. Relatives of Anandan, who was involved in a land dispute case with one of his neighbours, were assaulted by unidentified men at Erumapetty on Friday. They were attacked while they were returning from a meeting in protest against the recent attack on human rights activist Sreedharan Therambil. A Sub-Inspector in Vadakkanchery was recently suspended following allegations that false cases were foisted on Anandan. Ms. Thampan told reporters after calling on a relative of Anandan who was admitted to the District Hospital that the attack on the women was unfortunate. “I spoke to the Superintendent of Police and he promised to intensify investigation of the case,” she said.
