The success mantra

‘Think and do differently’

Chairman of the Amara Raja group Ramachandra N. Galla after being felicitated by the Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

VIJAYAWADA: Ramachandra N. Galla, chairman of the Amara Raja Group of Industries, on Saturday advised entrepreneurs not to think of doing the same things in the same way that others had done, but do them differently to achieve success in industrial sector. He said he followed this principle when he returned from the U.S. to do his bit to the industrial development of the State.

Dr. Ramachandra was addressing an elite gathering after he was felicitated by the Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry for receiving the honorary doctorate from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

Chamber president Malineni Rajaiah, noted industrialist Chukkapalli Kusalava, academician P.L.N. Prasad and others were present.

Touching upon his initial experiences in the industry, Dr. Ramachandra said that the first question that was posed to him in the beginning was about the business that he wanted to start, rather than about the infrastructure and such concerns. “It was perhaps the toughest decision. I owe Vijayawada a lot in this connection. I got the thought of beginning a particular industry during my visit to the thermal power station here some years ago,” he said.

Dr. Ramachandra recalled how he wanted to contribute to the local industrial growth after years of working as an electrical engineer in different plants in the U.S. Vijayawada and the coastal belt in the State had enormous potential for industrial growth, he felt.

Mr. Rajaiah said contrary to popular perception, the coastal region had not seen the kind of development that was happening in other parts of the State. He found fault with the government for not promoting and encouraging industrialists to set up industries in coastal areas.
